$155M Worth Of STEAM
In this week’s newsletter, we chronicle the christening of City College's new $155 million facility and more.
"Celebrating Women" honors Women’s History Month and is presented in the spirit of uplifting and celebrating women artists.
A two-week art show featuring the works of more than 30 women artists will be held at Ingleside Gallery, the artist-run gallery that highlights emerging to mid-career artists.
Called “Celebrating Women,” the show is in honor of Women’s History Month and presented in the spirit of uplifting women, according to the organizers.
“We are excited to put on this show to commemorate the long struggle by women for women’s social, civil and political rights,” Ingleside Gallery curator Shrey Purohit said in a news release. “Progress has been made but we have a long way to go. Ending misogyny and patriarchy will take strong sons, daughters and non binary children of women!”
Artist and curator Kristin Farr, Seattle-based illustrator and designer Allison Vu and Ingleside-based jewelry designer Eko Wright will all have works on display.
All works are displayed salon-style. Every item is available for sale.
The opening reception, held at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 18, features live music from Lydia Burdorf. The Young People’s Teen Musical Theater Company will perform “Spring Awakening” at 5 p.m.
A curator’s art party will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 25.
On Saturday, April 2, a poetry reading featuring the work of Bay Area women poets will begin at 5 p.m.
The closing reception on Sunday, April 3, will feature live music from DVKLBR.
This very publication is participating in the art show via sponsoring The Ingleside Light Rising Star Award for artists under the age of 20.
"This is an award designed to highlight and support spectacular work from young artists, of which there are many who display and sell works at Ingleside Gallery," Purohit said. "It is especially significant that we are offering this award in partnership with The Ingleside Light at our Celebrating Women show, as it shows that, in the Ingleside, the creative expression of women is something that truly matters."
The public is invited to celebrate the recipient artist, who will be announced at the gallery's poetry reading show, on Saturday, April 2.
