Speaking For The Trees
In this week’s newsletter, we check on the state of Ocean Avenue's urban canopy and more.
After a fire damaged the West Portal business, it bounced back on Ingleside's stretch of Ocean Avenue.
Experienced manicurist Gwen Ton is back in business — and this time in Ingleside.
After a fire put Ton’s White Daisy Nail Spa in West Portal out of commission last year, Ton spent more than a year rebuilding, holding a grand opening on Aug. 12.
Ton merged the former storefronts occupied by Serge A Lot and Nails by Lisa on Ocean Avenue between Victoria and Ashton avenues and created an expansive, lux space.
“When you come here you feel like you’re relaxing, not rushing,” Ton said.
Ton, who is originally from Vietnam, considered setting up a temporary location while repairs were underway but instead poured her energy into a new and permanent location for her clients to enjoy.
And she kept the same business name because it represents many positive attributes such as money in Vietnamese.
“For me, I just like the flower because of its energy — and white is a cute color,” Ton said.
While Ton has upgraded her space with heated massage chairs and a new seating area, she still offers several of the same services like manicures for $25, pedicures for $40, acrylic full sets for $60 and they are offering 15% off for the remainder of the month in honor of their opening.
The spa also offers facials for $90, waxing services starting at $15 and nail add ons like French polish starting at $10.
Longtime client Mae C. followed the spa from West Portal to Ingleside. She said the new place is nice and parking is easy.
“In here, it’s just really friendly and I like it,” Mae C. said.
