Due to an administrative investigation, Taraval Station police Capt. Nicholas Rainsford was reassigned in mid June to the Homeland Security Unit.
San Francisco Police Department Chief Bill Scott transferred Taraval Station Capt. Nicholas Rainsford to the Homeland Security Unit on June 12.
Rainsford is under administrative investigation, according to a June 17 report in the San Francisco Examiner and independently confirmed by The Light.
“A new captain has not yet been named for Taraval Station,” Officer Adam Lobsinger told The Light. “In the meantime Lt. Aaron Lozada is the acting captain.”
Rainsford grew up in the Parkside neighborhood and joined the force in 1994. He became captain of Taraval Station in December 2018.
Rainsford had recently led a town hall-style virtual meeting about a gang-related shooting in May during which dozens of shots were traded by the occupants of two vehicles. Several individuals involved in the shooting as well as other shootings were arrested.
Taraval Station’s jurisdiction covers most of Ingleside while the rest is covered by Ingleside Station.
