Here's What Mayor Daniel Lurie Plans To Do For Ingleside
From economic help to leveraging City College, here’s what Mayor Daniel Lurie has in store for the greater Ingleside.
The restaurant adds Tashian-style claypot dishes to the neighborhood.
A purveyor of Chinese cuisine in San Francisco’s iconic Chinatown just opened a location on Ingleside’s Ocean Avenue.
Restaurateurs Gavin Chak and Jackie Xu soft opened Taishan Cuisine on Sunday.
“So far everything’s good,” said Chak, who lives close to Ingleside. “The neighborhood likes it. They like our dishes. Some of the dishes aren’t provided in the neighborhood. A lot of restaurants don’t have them.”
Drawing from the success of their location on Broadway in Chinatown, the owners have set out to bring late-night Chinese food to Ingleside, something Chak felt the street was missing. They are planning a February grand opening.
Taishanese-style cooking features shumai dumplings, shrimp rice noodle rolls, century egg pork congee porridge, braised lamb with beancurd sticks and beef chow fun to name a few. But what they are most known for, Chak said, is their clay pot dishes, particularly their signature eel, quail and frog flavors.
The owners want their restaurant to be a go-to for students and residents — and lots of them since orders can be turned around quickly.
Riordan High School students Charlie W., Tony W., Linn L. and Vincent L. said they are excited to have another option in the neighborhood for a quick bite, especially since there aren’t others like it.
“We have fast food,” Chak said. “People like fast food like Panda Express.”
Chak has a message for the neighborhood: “Come try dishes you cannot find elsewhere."
