Service on the 49 Van Ness/Mission and 29 Sunset bus routes will be changed starting Jan. 20.
Service on two neighborhood bus routes will be changed starting Jan. 20 to address crowding, particularly during school travel times, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency announced.
The 49 Van Ness/Mission and 29 Sunset routes will have increased frequency on weekdays. Exact details were not released.
The 24 Divisadero, 38R Geary Rapid, 44 O’Shaughnessy and 48 Quintara-24th Street will also have increased weekday frequency and the 28 19th Avenue will have increased frequency on weekends.
The frequency changes are in response to transportation agency staff observations and feedback from families since the beginning of the school year.
"At times the bus is so full that it must pass up waiting riders," the transportation agency said in a new release. "We’ve also noticed that some popular routes are crowded throughout the day. As a result, we are making small frequency increases."
Weekday frequency on the 5 Fulton, 5 Fulton Rapid, 9 San Bruno and 33 Ashbury/18th Street routes will be decreased to enable the increased service on the other lines.
"The SFMTA continues to face financial constraints that limit our ability to expand service," according to the news release. "That means that adding service on any route requires taking it from another route."
The transportation agency will monitor "ridership across routes to address changing travel patterns and only adding service where crowding is an issue," according to the news release.
