The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank will distribute food to families in the Ocean View-Merced Heights-Ingleside neighborhood starting Saturday at the Minnie & Lovie Ward Recreation Center.
The neighborhood has a high number of families with young children. The food pantry will alleviate lines at other food pantries operating in the area in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have seen the overwhelming need for food at other distribution sites in our district who are often serving 1,500 families in one day,” District 11 Supervisor Ahsha Safai said in a statement to the public. “I am grateful that rec and park has opened their doors to host our community and look forward to supporting our families in every way we can as we combat this crisis.”
The pop-up food pantry was organized in partnership with Safai’s office, the Recreation and Parks Department, and the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank.
Food distribution will be held on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Minnie & Lovie Ward Recreation Center is located at 650 Capitol Ave.
