Merging On The Mind
In this week’s newsletter, we look at the prospect of the K Ingleside being merged with the L Taraval.
The new lunch service started on Jan. 12.
Ofena is joining Dinosaur as a sandwich destination in Lakeside Village
Executive Chef Tim Humphrey and restaurater Tan Truong opened Ofena four months ago, bringing Ocean Avenue a chic but family-friendly dining experience with classic Italian dishes with a California twist. The new lunch service started on Jan. 12.
“They [customers] can come in and can sit and hangout or take it to go,” Ofena’s Director of Hospitality Kaitlin Mitza said. “It’s full service or to go, whatever’s clever for everybody in the neighborhood so they have options.”
The menu includes six Italian-inspired sandwiches. Two standouts are the “Don Angelo,” a meatball and Italian sausage sandwich with mozzarella and Calabrian pepperonata, and the “Nonni,” a roasted turkey and pancetta sandwich with fontina cheese, garlic aioli, iceberg lettuce, red onion, marinated tomatoes and oregano vinaigrette.
All sandwiches are served on a sesame hoagie with a side of giardiniera, a medley of chopped pickled vegetables, for $16. Sides include soup of the day at $7 a cup or $14 for a bowl and a house salad at $7 as a side or $14 for a full dish.
Ofena also serves dessert, signature cocktails, a selection of beer and wine and select non-alcoholic drinks like Lurisia Limonata Italian sodas.
“The food is delicious,” Ofena’s Director of Beverage Mikey McCardle said. “The sandwiches are very well executed. I think once people catch on, I think it’ll be great.”
McCardle also said that Humphrey is passionate about sandwiches and has always wanted to include them as a more casual dining option than their dinner service.
“We’re delighted to be here and we love doing what we do, serving people and providing this experience that you can’t really get in these suburbs,” McCardle said. “We feel that people shouldn’t have to travel to downtown San Francisco to get a really nice meal and an excellent service.”
