Work crews will be on Ingleside's stretch of Ocean Avenue starting Monday to stripe street parking spaces and paint curbs for loading zones.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is reconfiguring parking as part of the K Ingleside Rapid Project, a series of street changes to improve traffic flow for K Ingleside rail service and general street safety.

The project includes red transit-only lanes and re-timing traffic and crosswalk signals.

"We heard from business owners that their delivery drivers currently have no better option than double-parking to load and unload goods and passengers," the agency said in an announcement. "We worked with merchants and residents to identify existing parking spaces to convert to various types of loading."

Parking

Nine parking spaces were added to the avenue in January by the elimination of the Cerritos Avenue and Westgate Drive streetcar boarding islands.

Nine additional parking spaces will be added to Dorado Terrace by converting perpendicular parking into angled parking.

A state law requiring "daylighting" at intersections — removal of visual obstructions for drivers — went into effect in November. Vehicles cannot be parked within 20 feet of any crosswalk in the direction of approaching traffic.

For daylighting, one parking space will removed from the west side of Granada Avenue north of Ocean Avenue and another will be removed on the south side of Ocean Avenue west of Plymouth Avenue.

Loading Zones

The agency is spending special attention to loading zones to ease congestion by reducing double parking.

One commercial and two general loading spaces will be added to the southern side of Ocean Avenue west of Ashton Avenue.

Five passenger loading spaces will be added to the north side of Ocean Avenue west of Dorado Terrace.

Three commercial loading spaces will be added to the north side of Ocean Avenue west of Miramar Avenue.

One commercial loading space will be added to the east side of Capitol Avenue and one disabled persons space will be added on the east side south of Ocean Avenue.

Two commercial loading spaces will be added to the west side of Miramar Avenue south of Ocean Avenue.

One passenger loading space will be added to the east side of Miramar Avenue north of Ocean Avenue.
