Speaking For The Trees
In this week’s newsletter, we check on the state of Ocean Avenue's urban canopy and more.
Ingleside's annual Turkey Drive benefitting St. Anthony's Dining Room will be virtual this year due to the pandemic.
The St. Emydius Church parking lot won’t have merry volunteers this year collecting whole turkeys, canned goods and checks in Ingleside’s famed fog because of the pandemic.
But that won’t stop the giving spirit.
Armed with the slogan “Just Feed People In Need,” organizer Pierre Smit and company from the SF Turkey Drive will be taking donations online and by check.
“On Saturday, Nov. 21 and Dec. 19, we will have a Zoom virtual celebration,” Smit wrote in an announcement. “The program will include a virtual tour of the St. Anthony Foundation to show the great things your donations are doing for people who have so little to live with.”
Rumor has it Ingleside’s own John “El Guajiro” Escobedo will perform at one or both Zoom celebrations.
Last year’s donations amounted to enough food to serve over 30,000 meals at the St. Anthony’s Dining Room, according to Smit.
Donations will be accepted now until Dec. 25.
