Ingleside's Palms Are Struggling. There's No Replacement Plan
Palms are a "California" aesthetic choice that doesn’t work in foggy Ingleside but there’s more to the story.
Fans can expect a bevy of shows and after-parties honoring the late Grateful Dead frontman.
Jerry Day will be as big as ever this summer with a series of musical performances and events in the run-up to the huge McLaren Park concert on Aug. 3.
The Jerry Day Committee is a volunteer group that honors the late Grateful Dead frontman, who grew up on Harrington Street in the Excelsior before embarking on a music career that took him from the Haight-Ashbury scene to an international celebrity.
“We're still trucking but more importantly we're ecstatic to see other types of programming happening at Jerry Garcia Amphitheater and there's more development for other types of events taking shape,” event founder Tom Murphy said. “It's important that local residents support local events such as Jerry Day and our local businesses.”
Fans can expect artists like Grahame Lesh, Elliot Peck and Alex Jordan to open the event with headliner Stu Allen and Mars Hotel. There will also be a surprise co-headliner who will make a return to the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater stage but won’t be revealed until mid-July.
Festivities include tribute nights at sporting events like Oakland A’s and San Francisco Giants baseball games and multiple music-filled nights at venues like The Recovery Room and more.
After the show, there will be Jerry Night, after parties across the neighborhood at venues like Tala Wine, Dark Horse Inn, The Check In Lounge and more.
Tala Wine owner Tala Drzewiecki, who grew up as a Dead devotee said she is always excited to host Garcia fans in his home neighborhood.
“We just want to shed light on the beautiful culture and just kind of appreciate the music and all the culture that the Grateful Dead brought to the great city of San Francisco,” Drzewiecki said.
