Popular Korean American supermarket H Mart has purchased the Oceanview Village Shopping Center where it already operates and plans to expand.

The marketplace was purchased for $37 million on May 1, according to media reports. H Mart opened its first San Francisco location on Alemany Boulevard in April 2021. The company also has plans to open an East Bay Area location in the Dublin Retail Center.

Representatives of H Mart did not respond to requests for comment by press time.

Since opening its San Francisco location, the trendy chain announced plans to expand into the neighboring 24 Hour Fitness space to add 27,168 square feet of space for more parking, an expanded food-court and a new dry-product area.

Last year, H Mart’s Head of Assessment Management Sam Kim held a pre-application meeting with residents to share expansion plans. The San Francisco Planning Commission approved the expansion plans in September 2023 with conditions.

The 370 condo units located above the shopping center were not part of the sale.
