A man who stabbed his wife to death in an Ocean View church in 2018 was convicted by a jury.
A San Francisco jury convicted a man for the murder of his estranged wife on March 25, 2018, inside Chinese Christian Church.
Wyn Leung, 47, in violation of a domestic violence restraining order, entered the storefront church located at the intersection of Chester and 19th avenues after Palm Sunday services had concluded to find Jieyun Zhou. Zhou was set to obtain full custody of their two children in a divorce three days later, according to testimony.
When Zhou refused to speak with him about child custody, Leung tracked her down and stabbed her 20 times. He then turned the knife on himself.
Police responding to the incident ordered Leung to drop the knife and he refused. He relented after officers applied non-lethal force. Medical aid was then given to Zhou, who was pronounced dead at a hospital.
“I would like to thank the jury for their service in this case and delivering justice to the victim’s family and friends who have patiently waited for years to see justice achieved,” District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said in a news release. “My office is committed to standing by victims for as long as it takes to see justice done and ensuring there is accountability and abusers face consequences.”
Leung was convicted of first-degree murder, felony domestic violence causing great bodily injury and violation of a restraining order causing injury.
Leung, who is remains in custody, is scheduled to be sentenced on March 4.
