Speaking For The Trees
In this week’s newsletter, we check on the state of Ocean Avenue's urban canopy and more.
The biggest international trade summit in the city’s history is expected to cause big traffic changes.
San Francisco is hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Summit in November, a week-long event expected to draw 30,000 people from over 20 countries to the South of Market and Nob Hill neighborhoods.
With dignitaries such as President Joe Biden and possibly China’s Xi Jinping anticipated to attend, the United States Secret Service will operate security zones that will require streets to be closed and vehicle traffic diverted.
That means 17 Muni bus and light rail lines will have route changes from Nov. 14-19.
The K Ingleside and T Third light rails lines will be combined temporarily.
All K and T stops from Balboa Park to Embarcadero to Sunnydale will be served by a temporary KT Ingleside-Third, including the Embarcadero at Folsom and Brannan and King at Second and Fourth streets, according to a news release from San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.
Riders should look for train head signs that indicate the K Ingleside westbound, T Third eastbound or KT Ingleside-Third,” according to the transportation agency. “There will be no Muni Metro service provided to Fourth and Brannan or Yerba Buena-Moscone stations.”
Additional events may be held with little notice that may impact Muni routes, traffic and pedestrian access. Also, predictions and third-party navigation apps may not display information properly during this period. It’s advised that anyone traveling through the city should allow ample time.
“We’re working hard to make sure that you can get where you need to go during APEC,” the transportation agency said in a news release. “But please expect congestion downtown, traffic delays, transit reroutes, delays and crowding on Muni during APEC and any additional conference-related events or activities.”
