‘Back to Rec Night’ on September 29

Join Rec and Park on Wednesday, September 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. to meet recreation facility’s newest team members and learn about our Department’s new recreation model.  Join Rec and Park at one of 34 sites across the city, including recreation centers and swimming pools.

In the neighborhood, there will be events at the Crocker Amazon Rec Center, Minnie & Lovie Ward Rec Center and Balboa Pool.

Breaking: Fire on Ocean Avenue between Miramar and Capitol

Jojo’s Cafe at 1537 Ocean Ave. caught fire in the late evening of Sept. 10.

There were no injuries. Arson has not been determined.

San Francisco Fire Department’s Station 15 responded to the call, blocking off the street between Capitol and Miramar avenues while they searched, vented and inspected the building.

It is believed that the kitchen stove caught fire. The fire then spread through the flue up the backside of the house, according to a fireman at the scene.

Help Make Sure Ocean Avenue is Decked Out For the Holidays

Ocean Avenue Revitalization Collaborative will be having a fundraiser for holiday decorations August 31.

Mingle with residents and merchants while enjoying appetizers to help make Ocean Avenue festive for the holidays from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Caffe D’ Melanio’s (1314 Ocean Ave.). All donations are tax-deductible and made out to OMI-NIA.

Help in Planning the Arts Showcase for the Excelsior Festival

Join Excelsior Action Group in showcasing the projects they’ve completed to beautify the Excelsior  at this year’s Excelsior Arts and Music Festival, which will be on Sunday October 3, 2010. There will be discussion about hosting an art project such as a moveable mural, and other ideas to showcase local talent and the Excelsior Art Plan.

“We’d like to showcase and celebrate these achievements through a variety of mediums at this year’s biggest party in the neighborhood,” EAG’s Executive Director Cristy Johnston said in an e-mail.
